Built in 1921 by the Bonython family, Adelaide Hills House was sympathetically restored one hundred years later in 2021 by the present custodians. Respecting the agricultural history of the local area and the architecture of the original stone residence, Adelaide Hills House now combines historic ambience with luxurious contemporary design.
Summertown is located in the heart of the Piccadilly Valley, an area popular in the 1800s as a summer retreat for affluent Adelaide residents. With fertile soils, the Piccadilly Valley has a long history as an agricultural district with orchards, market gardens and more recently, premium cool climate wines. Home to the Peramangk people prior to European settlement in the mid 1830s, the landscapes are spectacular and temperatures more moderate than the Adelaide Plains.
In 2022, work commenced on a terraced garden designed by award winning Caroline Dawes Gardens embracing the spectacular views across the Piccadilly Valley while providing privacy, serenity and breathtaking beauty. With one thousand plants hand planted to establish the formal garden and an enclosed vegetable garden, Adelaide Hills House pays homage to the property's long history as a market garden. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with possibly the largest lavender garden in the Adelaide Hills.
Today, Adelaide Hills House has an exciting future as a premium short-stay accommodation experience for discerning guests.
